Vroeger, toen de MTV Movie Awards nog een leuke show was en niet zo’n tween fest, betekende het nog iets om een popcorn beeldje te winnen. Gelukkig ziet MTV nu ook eindelijk in dat het de verkeerde kant op is gegaan. Nieuw dit jaar is dat niet alleen het publiek mag stemmen, maar ook een groep regisseurs zal stemmen in de category Breakthrough Performance. Deze vakkundige jury zal bepalen welke nieuwkomer het beeldje mee naar huis mag nemen.
De Awards worden op 3 juni uitgereikt in Los Angeles onder toeziend oog van host Russell Brand. Stemmen kan via de MTV website.
Hieronder een overzicht van de belangrijkste categorieën en de genomineerden. MTV is dit jaar wat creatiever geweest met nomineren. Zo zijn Kristen Stewart en Robert Pattinson niet in de race voor Beste Performance, maar zijn er wel nominaties voor Rooney Mara, Joseph Gordon-Levitt en Ryan Gosling (voor Drive nog wel!).
